On the way to Mt. Montserrat in Barcelona, someone asked me, “has your style always been this classic?” Until that very moment I never really defined my style. I’d have to say I was a late bloomer. My style evolved as my life evolved. Finding my own sense of style was parallel to finding my identity and footing in this world which was greatly affected by my relationships, experiences and travels.
My closet used to be filled with black clothing…from the little black dress up to black lace lingerie. It was simple, safe, and strong. That was my idea of elegance. Nothing about it spelled vulnerability or excitement. It had a simple statement, “take it or leave it but this is me.”
Now going through my closet is like being in a story. Yes, it remains elegant and strong but it is more playful, daring, and dainty. It is not limited to what brands, stylists, or people dictate. It is what I have become. Classic elegance…that is my style…because that is me.
But if there is one person who I must thank for my “becoming,” it would be my sister. She taught me how it is to be more daring and confident in my own skin. She is one of the most fashionable people I know and she gave me my sense of elegance then my boyfriend colored it.
